Hello, I sent an email to Prof Batho the other week, but am not sure if it was received. I therefore repeat it below, but cannot attach the additional docs referred to.

    Dear professor Barrow,
As a former history teacher in the north east, I keep an eye on upcoming public lectures, and I noted the one for Feb 2011 on Winstanley. I am also the Secretary of Durham Scratch Choir, a community choir based in the city.

Two years ago, a piece of music was commissioned. It was entitled “Heaven beneath our feet”. It has been performed in its entirety at Elvet Methodist Church, in Morpeth and as part of the WEA centenary celebrations. The work is based on the words of Winstanley and his pamphlets and the music is influenced heavily by the work of the 17th musician and collector, John Playford.

Given the time and energy that we have put into this, I daresay that a number of the members of the choir would like to attend the lecture. I first of all wanted to check that would be alright.

Secondly I wondered about us performing a couple of extracts in the entrance or wherever, either as people were coming in or leaving. This might comprise a group of singers alone or perhaps accompanied by flute, oboe and cello.

Would you and the Association have any thoughts on that? A copy of the poster for the premier is attached for your information.

I look forward to hearing from you,

    Yours sincerely,

    Vince Allen
